Grants to Increase Local Dementia Support

Our GILDS (Grants to Increase Local Dementia Support) program is here for both individuals living with dementia and the families and caregivers who support them. We know that dementia affects everyone involved, and our department is dedicated to walking alongside you through each step of the journey. From practical services to educational resources and emotional support, we provide the tools, guidance, and care you need to help your loved one maintain dignity, independence, and quality of life – while also supporting your well-being as a caregiver.

  • Support Groups

offered in collaboration with the Nueva Luz Foundation, where caregivers and families can share experiences, learn strategies, and find encouragement.

  • Caregiver Education & Resources

in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, helping families navigate the journey with confidence and understanding.

  • Engaging Activities

that promote social connection, cognitive stimulation, and emotional well-being.

Memory Cafe

A memory café is a welcoming, stigma-free social gathering for individuals with cognitive challenges (including Alzheimer’s or dementia) and their care partners. Held regularly in community spaces, these gatherings offer coffee, light snacks, social connection, and engaging activities like music or art in a low-pressure environment that reduces isolation.

L.I.F.E Program

Pharr’s Leveraging Information For Everyone or L.I.F.E. Program is a direct referral service that ensures you, the resident, will be connected to the proper organization or business during your time of need.

Unlike other referral services, the L.I.F.E. Program is designed so that we are with you every step of the way! Through this platform, we not only help connect you directly with the right organization but are also able to follow-up and monitor the process to ensure services are rendered in a timely manner.

Walk to End Alzheimer's

pic

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for care, support, and research for Alzheimer’s disease. This annual event brings together individuals, families, and caregivers, and organizations who are passionate about making a difference in the fight against dementia.

Why We Walk

We walk to honor those affected by memory loss, support caregivers, and help advance critical research efforts. Every step taken is a step toward a future without Alzheimer’s.

Everyone is invited to create a team, register as participants, and fundraise for the cause!
