Dr. Ney Alliey-Rodriguez
Biography
Dr. Ney Alley Rodriquez is a research psychiatrist studying the multifactorial nature of neuropsychiatric disorders. His work is aimed at discovering
biological underpinnings of mental disorders and to generate knowledge with clinical usability. Coming from a clinical background, he developed expertise in the design and testing of complex models of genetic interactions with deep phenotyping, gene expression and gene-environment interactions. In 2021, he joined the South Texas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, motivated to work on the discovery of Alzheimer’s risk factors in the Hispanic population of South Texas, where mentoring and research opportunities are also provided to medical students and residents. As lead genetic analyst of the Bipolar and Schizophrenia Network of Intermediate Phenotypes study (BSNIP) at The University of Chicago, Dr. Ney Alley Rodriquez discovered novel genetic associations with neuroimaging sub-phenotypes in psychotic patients. There he also implemented pharmacogenomic protocols across international collaborations, and mentored college and graduate students at the Conte Center at University of Chicago and from Latin-American universities. One of his works is on genetics of psychological subphenotypes led to the discovery of genes related to neuroticism, novelty seeking and aggression in bipolar disorder.
Dr. Ney Alley Rodriguez’s calculation of genetic risks for neuropsychiatric disorders was the cornerstone for the genetic testing statement of the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics.
