About us

The City of Brownsville Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) offers quality valued assets and programs to the community through a variety of services that enhance Brownsville’s quality of life, economic value, and sense of community. PARD manages 46 parks encompassing over 1,000 acres of parkland, features 47 miles of hike/bike trails, 4 gymnasiums and 2 public pools, 50 buildings and structures, over 55 athletics fields, an 18-hole golf course, a regionally renowned events center, and the Catherine Stillman Dog Park.

The Downtown Recreation Center was home to the Boys and Girls club in 1974, but now hosts the Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices.

Since 1974, the facility was home to the Brownsville Boys and Girls Club, but now hosts the Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) administrative offices, the VAC Community Youth Programs Center, a new Teen Center, a new health/fitness room, and offers recreational programs.


Activities Available

Brownsville Downtown Recreation Center

  • Afterschool Recreation

    This program offers a safe engaging environment during the school year. Free meals are provided on-site @ 4:30pm.

    Ages 5 through 17 are welcome

    Monday through Friday, 3PM to 6PM

  • Board Game Social

    Play weekly for friendly card games! Games such as Canasta, Mahjong, Skip-Bo and more. Refreshments provided while they last. For ages 50 years & older. FREE.

    Tuesdays from 9:30AM to 10:30AM

  • Cardio Room

    Is open to adults 18 & over. Come drop by and get your heart pumping. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be mindful of others and share equipment responsibly. FREE.

    Monday through Friday from 8AM to 2PM

  • Crafts & Card Games

    Ready to relax and get creative? Join our retired activity! Drop in for arts and crafts or a game! FREE.

    Fridays from 9:30AM to 10:30AM

  • Karaoke

    Sing your heart out and have fun. Karaoke is healthy and rewarding activity. No previous singing experience is needed, just the desire to join us for some music with a fun group of people! For Ages 50 & older. FREE.

    Monday 9:30AM to 10:30AM

  • Line Dancing

    Line dancing is a fun, health, & rewarding activity. No previous dance experience is needed, just the desire to join us for some great exercise with a fun group of people! For Ages 50 & older. FREE.

    Tuesdays at 9:30AM

  • Strength & Conditioning

    Part of the After School Recreation Program, fitness that incorporates boxing and cardio. For Ages 12 to 17. FREE.

    Tuesdays & Thursday from 5PM to 6PM.
